Patricia McGillicuddy
I specialise in Intercultural therapy. I welcome people of immigrant descent and the trauma of separation. Settling into another country is difficult both for yourself and your loved ones, no matter the reason for resettlement. The loss of a community of people who were familiar to being in a place that it strange to you and your cultural awareness can be daunting and often difficult to adjust to. I create a space for you to explore ways to integrate your way of being.

About me and my practice
I'm of a mixed European descent. Both my parents were also of mixed descent in their heritage and I was raised in a UK where all of the differences of my Heritage were covertly 'seen', and expressed in micro-rejections.
The lived experience of my past as my parents settled into a new country with their own Mixed Heritage was the learning and grounding of my human awareness and the lived university of my empathic understanding.
The fallout of difference may not register until later in life and can result in numerous ways of expression such as anxiety, addiction, depression, displacement and grief. We may feel that we don't fit but lack the understanding as to why we feel this way. Our internal language battling with the external experience.
I work with the clients spiritual experience enabling a sense of belonging and encouraging a safe space to explore their own lived experience and truth.
We are all on a journey back to the self and deserve the opportunity to grow within a safe, non-judgemental and understanding atmosphere that recognises and validates our lived experiences and nuances that have shaped who we are.
I welcome you.
Experience
I have 20 years of post qualified Therapeutic experience, of working with people of all diversities, presenting with numerous life issues.
Having worked in employment assistance assessment for over 10 years, as a first point of call consultant, I have experienced clients presenting with a full range of issues, and am not phased by the variety of ways in which our mental health can cause us to be knocked out of balance, dealing with stress and anxiety through to serious life trauma.
From working in Educational settings I have experience of working with both young and more mature adults with issues that affect our ability to focus on our work.
I have experience in working with Business counselling and Coaching, offering me to opportunity to learn about Business Development and how our life experiences can hinder the growth of business and how it can impact our working life.
My work has brought me to become trained as a Supervisor in my field and I Supervise other therapists in their work, holding both myself and my supervisees to the Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
